What is The White Book about?

The White Book seeks to unpack what mental health means for us in our personal, social and civic lives. 

We are guided by curiosity in our approach to mental health. We also acknowledge that everyone’s journey looks different. We’d like to be able to hold space for all narratives.

Is this relevant to me?

Everyone has mental health. That includes you, your loved ones, and the people you interact with at work and in any place. 

Our mental wellbeing directly impacts our thoughts, emotions, and behaviours. Being healthy mentally and emotionally helps us cope with adversity, have better relationships, and thrive in areas of our lives that matter.

What is White: Behind Mental Health Stigma about?

This book brings together 50 voices about mental health in Singapore. We hope that bringing together a broad range of perspectives can open up deeper conversations and ease the loneliness that often accompanies the journey of self-discovery.

What can I expect from the book?

This book interweaves academia and practical tips with personal narratives and artwork. You will read about topics ranging from intergenerational trauma to the mental health of migrant workers. We also have pieces that unpack the stigma about addiction and addicts; caregiving, and how leaders can work on changing the work culture in organisations.

There’s a lot in here and we work to make it an enjoyable read for you. You may find essays, interviews, personal stories, artworks, infographics and illustrations — all shared with vulnerability, courage, and clarity.

Contributors to this edition include academics like Dr Mythily Subramaniam (IMH & NUS), Dr Terence Yow (AMKFSC) and Dr Lee Ying Ying (IMH); leaders like Tina Hung (NCSS) and Tong Yee (Common Ground); communities including InterUni LGBT Network and Transient Workers Count Too (TWC2); individuals such as Charmaine Poh (Forbes 30 under 30), Rachel Pang Comics, Irie Aman (The Local Rebel), and the Pang family (Pangdemonium).
